ORIGINS

THE FIRST VINEYARDS

Conatvs came into being from the remaining ancestral vineyards on Fuerteventura, which were the first ever on the Canary Islands.

La Viña de Aníbal was the first vineyard established on Fuerteventura, and the first on the Canary Islands (1412).

The golden era of vineyards on Fuerteventura was the 1950s, but by the 1990s there were only a few left in the mountains, ravines and sandy areas, given the lack of water and the number of goats on the island. In the 1980s, the family of Bodega Conatvs's current owner, Pedro Antonio Martín, started by planting around 500 vines from strains that he found around the island, and Pedro Antonio Martínez carried on doing the same thing in the 1990s…

AGE OLD VINES

30 years ago, Pedro, a restorer by profession, started to plant vineyards as a hobby, and over the years he has been analysing the way each varietal behaves, studying the most suitable place for the best planting, and the most suitable methods of vine cultivation, in order to recover the way in which the wines were grown, to create wines which are unique and emblematic of his beloved island; he was making the most of the riches still lying in the age-old vines, with their great trunks hidden in the island's ravines.

BEGINNINGS

BODEGA CONATVS

In 2016, Pedro was lucky enough to meet Alberto G. González Plasencia in his restaurant, and at the very moment he heard him talking, it was quite clear to him that here was a wine Messiah... what Fuerteventura needed... Alberto and he worked alongside to bring Viña de Aníbal back to its former glory, from the remains scattered around Fuerteventura and which are today planted at Bodega Conatvs, where in the past there was coast and beaches, battered by the sea.
